Day 6

Well the promised photos from yesterday didn't happen, sorry. Yesterday was a stressful day, not because of the building, which is coming along beautifully, but because I live with a man who changes his mind about everything and doesn't have a clear vision of what he wants the room to look like. I spend hours doing the research for him to say, no, I don't like that light/that paint/that sofa. It can be very infuriating. It just gave me a huge headache yesterday!

Back to the building work, we have plasterboard on most walls now, the others are to be plastered.

The fireplace has been covered up (hoorah)

and we have been testing blobs of paint.

The winner is this one. Farrow and Ball's Calamine, perfect!

Today the plastering is being done so I have to resort to going round the outside of the house again as it is very dusty and messy. See you tomorrow.

  1. My goodness, I can't believe you're having all that work done before Christmas, you brave woman! Iremember having a kitchen fitted and waiting for the builders to turn up to finish it on Christmas Eve, it was a very long day! I'm sure your room is going to look delicious, I love that FB colour. Good luck

  2. I think the fireplace looks great - I think it will make the room look bigger, do you? The FB paint colour is delicious - can't wait to see it all finished! As for men changing their minds ... just go ahead & do what *you* want & then let him think it was his idea in the first place - usually works a treat! :o)

  5. Top colour. Well, I would say that as we have it in one of our spare rooms! I find it easier not to ask the man's opinion and just do what I want now; I used to ask but like you say, headaches...

  6. Typical man, I always have the same problem, my husband likes rooms as they look in the Next book but I dont. I always get my own way and he loves the final finish.... That FB paint is lovely, I painted four photo frames in the same colour which are now holding some black and white photos of my boys in and are hanging on my conservatory wall looking fab.....You are very brave having this work done before christmas but im sure it will be more than worth it and you will have a fab place to enjoy christmas all together. Last year I have a new conservatory put onto the rear of the house and a new kitchen fitted all in October when I was very very heavily pregnant. I am now enjoying the new baby and the new rooms in the house plus and not sorry if I never see another builder / electrician / plumber again .....

    Well done you.....

  8. I did smile thinking of the colour of your paint; when I was little calamine lotion was used for things like sunburn or chickenpox - expect the walls will look really cool - ha!ha!

    The fireplace looks 300% better.
I am sorry to hear your man has input to interior design - no wonder your head hurts!!

  12. I miss the days when I just did what I wanted with the house. So much easier, but Mr Dave is very into all that too and so compromise comes into play...sigh. Good luck Donna xx

What a job... I know just how it is. You'll get there and it looks like you will! I like the fire place although I couldn't have covered it up. It is much lighter though now I must admit!!!
