Spring

I am sure we put the clock's forward at the weekend, surely that means it's spring now?  Then why is it so bitterly cold, wet and windy?  It feels like winter has returned with a vengeance, just as I turned the heating down!

I have faith though, our weather can change very quickly and the sun will soon be out, our coats hung up, sandals on and the outdoors will seem like a nice place to be.

I have added lots of Spring floral fabrics to the website this week, perfect for dressmaking, curtains, quilting and other small textile projects.

And how about this wonderful Eames era Humpty Dumpty fabric?  Isn't it wonderful?

Just to remind you all that I will be at the Dairy House Textile and Costume Day on April 11th, a week on Sunday, with my wares so if you are coming, do please come and say hello.

Easter is fast approaching and I am glad for the school holidays. My little Lizzy has decided that she really really doesn't like school anymore.  I can't seem to find a reason why, she just doesn't like it.  On Monday I was called to pick her up at Lunch time as she had been crying all morning and they were afraid that she was unwell. She came skipping out with me and her big sister and spent a happy afternoon with us. The next morning she was back to crying, big heaving, shoulder shaking sobs and fat tears which break my heart.  I am just hoping that the break will give her a change of heart and she will go back to enjoying school. I can't bear to see her cry.

She has some funny ideas about Easter and religion which make me laugh (inwardly of course).  She is obssessed with the song, There is a green hill far away and makes me play it for her on youtube. She likes the mention of blood especially and looks serious at that point, shaking her head and saying 'blood mummy'.

She had her friend over for a playdate, and they were watching tv. She came and asked me, with a very sad voice, to put a dvd on for them which I did. I said that she didn't need to be sad when she asked me, I was happy to do it for her.  'Oh I'm not sad about that Mummy, I am sad about the story of Jesus because in the end he dies'.  'I know sweetheart', I said, 'it is sad'. 'Yes', she said, 'the baddies came and put a prickly helmet on him and in the Easter holidays he died'! Pin It

A Happy Day, A Sad Day

Last week my little baby turned 5.  How that happened I do not know.  Surely she has just arrived?   But no, 5 she is!  What a fabulous 5 years this little unexpected gift has given me. When I thought I was all done with having babies (my oldest is 20), she came along with her easy going, sweet,  good natured ways and showed me how much fun being a new mum after the age of 40 could be.

My little Lizzy Lou, dinosaur girl, how I love you.

The day before my little girl turned 5, the lovely Elspeth Thompson died.  I never met her but was an avid reader of her blog  and books.  Because of this wonderful blogging world where we all correspond like pen friends I feel as if I did know her and have felt sad about her passing ever since I heard the news.

She loved this poem by Thomas A Clark -

TWENTY BLESSINGS

May the best hour of the day be yours.
May luck go with you from hill to sea.
May you stand against the prevailing wind.
May no forest intimidate you.
May you look out from your own eyes.
May near and far attend you.
May you bathe your face in the sun’s rays.
May you have milk, cream, substance.
May your actions be effective.
May your thoughts be affective.
May you will both the wild and the mild.
May you sing the lark from the sky.
May you place yourself in circumstance.
May you be surrounded by goldfinches.
May you pause among alders.
May your desire be infinite.
May what you touch be touched.
May the company be less for your leaving.
May you walk alone beneath the stars.
May your embers still glow in the morning.

I am sure her embers will glow in the hearts of the many people she touched during her all too short life.  My thoughts are with her family. Pin It

New Stock

Another busy week, where does the time go?  Lots of lovely new stock came in this week. More beautiful ribbons, new colours and designs for Spring/Summer.

These are just a few of them.  They will be going into the shop next week.

Also being added will be these sweet haberdashery items. Great idea for gifts or for a young person just about to start sewing.  Such pretty colours!

And of course the week would not be complete unless I had some new fabrics now would it?  This week I am adding lots of new silks, crepes, cottons and rayons suitable  for dressmaking. I can just see this lot as pretty summer dresses can't you?

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day, I hope all you mums out there are being spoilt. I have been thoroughly spoilt so far.

The day started off with a little tap on my bedroom door at 7.15am, on opening it I found Alfie standing there with a bowl of muesli (made with soya milk, just how I like it).  Bless his heart, I can't do all that chewing so early in the morning. After a big cuddle I persuaded him to pop it in the fridge for later and I snuggled back down, thoughts of a lie in crossed my mind.  Half an hour later an excited Lizzy came bounding in saying 'I know what day it is'. Another big cuddle and then she went downstairs to see what her brother was up to. I decided that I might as well get up  and have a bubbly bath, lovely.

I had beautiful cards, flowers and presents from my three gorgeous babies and then went to see my Mum for a coffee and to give her gifts.

My Mum is wonderful and I love to be able to spoil her. She brought my sister and I up mostly as a single parent, with no support (either moral or financial) until she met my stepfather.  She never made my sister and I feel as though we were going without and her love and generosity made us feel richer than we were, when in fact we had nothing!  She is a remarkable lady and I don't know how she coped, I don't think I could have done as well.  I love her to pieces and I am so lucky to have her. My children have the best Grandma.

We are now waiting for a lovely 3 course meal, cooked by my beautiful first born.  I love being a mum.

Whatever you're doing, enjoy your day x Pin It

In Vogue

There are small signs of Spring at last which makes me happier than happy. I adore Spring, my babies were all born in Spring. However the cold wind reminds me of the saying 'Ne'er cast a clout til May be out', so with this in mind I have been busy listing beautiful eiderdowns on my site. I have so many eiderdowns and usually just sell them at fairs as they are expensive to post but I am asked for them all the time. I have some very pretty ones.

I also took delivery of the most scrumptious badges from Jane at Snapdragon this week.  Handmade using scraps of vintage fabrics they fit in with my other products beautifully.

Here are just a few of them.  Aren't they lovely?

I also have these beautiful egg cosies, a perfect Easter gift!

Another wonderful package from the postman was for me, not stock this time!  I had spotted this wonderful piece of driftwood artwork on Kirsty's site and realised that it had to come and live with me.  It fits in beautifully with my nautical themed vintage bathroom.  I love it!

She's so talented, if you haven't seen her work I suggest you pop over to her Folksy shop and take a peek!

This month I have had a little write up in Vogue. Near the back is a page titled Vintage Vogue and in amongst it all is a mention of me.

Yes my darlings, strike a pose, I'm in Vogue!
