New Fabrics

Thank you to all of you who came to the Talent for Textiles fair in  Ilminster. It was great to see you and have time to chat to a few of you.

Pretty Florals

All sorts of wondrousness!

Isn't this a wonderful fabric?  It's the fabric I bought at Bonham's auction when I went to Vintage at Goodwood.  It was designed by Tibor Reich in 1964, and was commissioned by the Shakespeare Trust to commemorate Shakespeare's quatercentenary year.  Titled ' Age of Kings', it depicts a stylised procession of medieval soldiers in shades of green, brown, black and gold. The design was used for the stage curtains in the Stratford Room.

Although it would not look right in my home, I think it is rather fabulous!

Talent for Textiles and a Sale!

A Century ago!

100 years ago today my Grandfather was born.  Sadly he is no longer with us and I do miss him.  I would still like to mark  this occasion.

Vintage at Goodwood

For the first time in over 10 years  Mr Fabric and I had 4 days together, without our darling children. So we packed up the camper van and set off for West Sussex and Vintage at Goodwood.

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I don't really 'do' camping. I'm far too high maintenance these days!  I was assured that this festival would not be like other festivals and that I would have all my home comforts. Not totally convinced, and having a slight panic that I would be spending time with my man in a space no bigger than my pantry, I bravely decided that I would make the best of it.  I LOVED it!!  There were flushing toilets and showers (albeit freezing) and I had electricity in the camper van so I could dry and straighten my hair. The horror of the chemical pits at Latitude were nowhere to be seen and the toilets remained clean and had plenty of toilet paper, joy!

So, to the festival itself.  This was the first event and I can only say how brilliant it was, sure there could be some improvements but overall it was great fun, well thought out, had a wonderful atmosphere and was everything and more that I hoped it would be.  There was so much to do that I didn't do half of what was available.

I met Hen there and she did totally different things to me!

Bonhams auction on the Sunday was such fun and I managed to win the only textiles in the auction, some beautiful Tibor Reich curtains, titled Age of Kings.

The stalls were jam packed full of vintage loveliness and I was spoilt for choice.  I bought 3 1950's dresses, a 1960's dress and a new Celia Birtwell dress, some to sell and some to keep.

Other highlights for me were dancing to Norman Jay in the Soul Casino until 2am, Watching Tony Hatch and orchestra play in the Leisure Dome, The Damned rocking the house in the Rock and Roll tent, Heaven 17 playing the entire Penthouse to Pavement, Marshall Chess dj'ing, Pearl and Daisy Lowe's fashion show complete with Matt Smith, the latest Dr Who in the front row watching his girl, Earth Wind and Fire and just generally hanging out and not having to be mummy for a few days.

All in all it was a really great festival, I had such a brilliant time and cannot wait until next year's event.

Home Spun

I had a day pass, a day without children, for the first time in weeks!  So what did I do?

That's right, I drove down, with mum,  to the Roseland Peninsula and Portscatho, home of the lovely Home Spun fair.

The village is so pretty and we had great weather luckily.

The fair was lovely and I came away with some goodies and got to meet some bloggers and stall holders that I hadn't met before.  I forgot to take pictures of the fair as I got too excited as usual when inside and didn't take out my camera. There are lovely pictures on Kirsty and Sal's blogs though.

These were my treasures from the day:

We then took a stroll in to the village and visited Christine's delightful little shop 'The Sea Garden'.  

Such a treasure trove and packed with all manner of goodies.  It was also very packed full of people so after a quick look around I left with a pretty pin cushion jar made by the talented Gertie.

We had lunch in a pub sat outside in the glorious sunshine and thought 'this is the life'.  I had the most delicious mackerel salad.

Sadly it went a bit downhill from there as by the time I had walked back up the hill to my car and to say goodbye to some of the stallholders I felt decidedly unwell. My head felt as though it was about to burst and my face was bright red and hot.  I really needed to get home so after a couple of painkillers I drove home, some 2 hours, feeling very very poorly.  Despite having all the windows open in the car my head felt like a furnace.  I'm not quite sure what happened but I think that I may have had a reaction to my lunch.  The effects were so sudden and I felt toxic for the rest of the day and most of the next day.  Very strange!

Anyway, I am better now and busy preparing for the weekend.  The tickets have arrived, the childcare is  all taken care of and now all I have to do is decide which dresses I am taking.

Yes, Paul and I, (and NO kids), are off to Vintage at Goodwood.  See you when I get back!
