Easter (and stuff)

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.  Easter was lovely in our household.  The excitement was palpable from the moment the children woke up in the morning. First thing in the morning they decorated their baskets ready for egg hunting.

They love the easter hunt, with clues, all round the garden and house.  Lizzy will need her own set of clues next year as Alfie tends to take over!

The chickens were also roped into the entertainment.  We each chose a chicken and,  with a bit of food for encouragement, they were let out of their run for the Great Annual Chicken Race!

These photos were an experiment taken with my Hipstamatic camera on my iPhone and are supposed to look like 1960's photos. I rather like them!

We also painted eggs which were then rolled down the sloping driveway of our house to choose the winner.  This caused much hilarity as each egg seemed to have its' own method of rolling.

I have put down my crochet for the time being and have taken up knitting.  First I knitted a bunny (which is just a body, ears and a pom pom tail!

I then progressed  to knitting my first teddy bear.

This one is for Alfie and I have more wool to make a white one for Lizzy.  Don't look too close, I hope to improve as time goes on but, as per usual, I am teaching myself as I go, so it's rather a long process!

The past few days have been spent preparing for the Textile and Costume Fair at Dairy House this weekend. I have mocked up my stall so here is a sneak preview of the goodies I will be taking. The weather is getting better and we have a promise of sunshine, hoorah, I knew it would come!  I hope to see some of you there.

Spring

I am sure we put the clock's forward at the weekend, surely that means it's spring now?  Then why is it so bitterly cold, wet and windy?  It feels like winter has returned with a vengeance, just as I turned the heating down!

I have faith though, our weather can change very quickly and the sun will soon be out, our coats hung up, sandals on and the outdoors will seem like a nice place to be.

I have added lots of Spring floral fabrics to the website this week, perfect for dressmaking, curtains, quilting and other small textile projects.

And how about this wonderful Eames era Humpty Dumpty fabric?  Isn't it wonderful?

Just to remind you all that I will be at the Dairy House Textile and Costume Day on April 11th, a week on Sunday, with my wares so if you are coming, do please come and say hello.

Easter is fast approaching and I am glad for the school holidays. My little Lizzy has decided that she really really doesn't like school anymore.  I can't seem to find a reason why, she just doesn't like it.  On Monday I was called to pick her up at Lunch time as she had been crying all morning and they were afraid that she was unwell. She came skipping out with me and her big sister and spent a happy afternoon with us. The next morning she was back to crying, big heaving, shoulder shaking sobs and fat tears which break my heart.  I am just hoping that the break will give her a change of heart and she will go back to enjoying school. I can't bear to see her cry.

She has some funny ideas about Easter and religion which make me laugh (inwardly of course).  She is obssessed with the song, There is a green hill far away and makes me play it for her on youtube. She likes the mention of blood especially and looks serious at that point, shaking her head and saying 'blood mummy'.

She had her friend over for a playdate, and they were watching tv. She came and asked me, with a very sad voice, to put a dvd on for them which I did. I said that she didn't need to be sad when she asked me, I was happy to do it for her.  'Oh I'm not sad about that Mummy, I am sad about the story of Jesus because in the end he dies'.  'I know sweetheart', I said, 'it is sad'. 'Yes', she said, 'the baddies came and put a prickly helmet on him and in the Easter holidays he died'! Pin It

Good Friday

Happy Hot Cross Bun Day everyone. I thought I would pop in and share some images of our Easter so far.

A preschool Easter bonnet parade. I decided against the smock in the end in case the other parents didn't quite 'get it'! We are saving it for Easter Day and the treasure hunt in the garden.

Our Easter tree, an annual event, decorated with eggs, bunnies and chicks.

Easter eggs

Sometimes I have to let go of the control freak in me and let Lizzy do her own decorating, even if it means that all the eggs go on one branch........................

because it makes her so happy!

Easter bunnies

and my first foray into home made hot cross buns. Delicious but I must remember to pipe the crosses on AFTER proving the dough or else they end up on the tea towel. We had hot crossless buns!

Easter Egg Hunt

Well I warned you in the last post that there would be Easter Egg hunt pictures and so here they are. This is a picture heavy post!

Every year we do an Easter hunt with the children with clues taking them round the house and garden finding little eggs and clues on the way until they find their baskets of booty at the end. They start off with pictorial clues when they are very little but progress onto written clues as they get older. Alfie just loves this. He was very quick to work out the clues and amazingly still believes that Easter Bunny put them all out for him, marvelling at how Easter Bunny could have put clues in his playroom while he was just nearby on the computer! Ah don't you just love a child's imagination? I remember my mum and gran doing the Easter Hunt for me in my gran and grandad's flat where they lived above their shop. The place was tiny in comparison to where my children live but the magic was still there, the hunt still very exciting. Children find magic in the tiniest things. Lizzy followed along behind with her tiny basket, scoffing mini eggs as she went. She was delighted with the whole thing. Jasmine feigned an aloofness but was secretly quite interested, especially when her basket was found with the others.

Alfie reads the clue

Hmmm what can it be?

Lizzy looks in her basket

Alfie asks the chckens if they have seen any eggs

He spots the clue (can you?)
